However, we carry price information about physique items which we conscientiously believe will be of interest and value to our readers. We assume no responsibility for any of the offers but want to be informed if readers experience unusual difficulty with any firm, and in such cases we will carry no further representation of the firm in question. An example of this is Ted Kenton whose work appears on page 18 and 19 of Vol 8 3 who "disappeared" without troubling to refund money sent to him. We can only suggest that physique buyers approach all new firms with caution and make certain they are reliable before taking a risk greater than they con afford. Some magazines will carry anyone's ad who is willing to pay for it. In particular be cautious of clandestine "new" firms from overseas who offer purportedly illegal material. In the first place it can rarely get through customs, and in the second place if the firm is dishonest to whom can one tum for redress? This is not meant to reflect on the many honest and reliable European firms. EUROPEAN REPRESENTATIVES: GREAT BRITAIN: Dominique, Suite 35 A 119 Oxford st. YOU CANT PLEASE ALL OF THE PEOPLE.... Our requests for frank and candid letters often bring us just that, and some letters point out so many of our faults that we wonder that the writers ever bother to look at our book at all. Much that is written however is far from being just opinion, but rather comes in the form of constructive suggestions and we humbly bow to the many friends who have helped to educate and mold us. At the same time, the variance of taste constantly amazes us, but even more extraordinary is the attitude of some readers who truly believe themselves to be ultimate authorities on what is good and bad, right and wrong. It never occurs to them that there can be different standards, different criterions but rather they are certain there is an absolute point of reference that everyone will agree to. Having developed their own set of standards they completely close their mind to any work which makes the slightest departure. For instance they would never say simply "I prefer husky models" but rather something like "Skinny young punks have no place in physique books.".
To some a tatoo represents a physical defacement that cannot be tolerated, though others consider tatoos a masculine attribute. Levis or pants are demanded by one group while others demand that the body be left completely uncovered. A smiling casual expression is a "sneering vacant look" all according to who is viewing the photo. The editor of Muscle Builder magazine told us he will accept no picture unless it Art work (Quaintance style) has a plain white or black background, but other magazines are delighted with an "Interesting" background. with long flowing lines is praised by many as the ultimate in beauty, condemned by others as sissy and effeminate, while brusque representation like Art-Bob is called masculine and rugged by his fans, crude and grotesque by his detractors. And so on, etc. etc. ad infinitum. There are of course "the enemies of physical culture" who look upon Physique Pictorial and all books like it as disgusting and vulgar, and no changes short of cessation of publication would please them. So who should we really try to please: The majority? The critical Minority? The outright Enemies? Well, you probably already know just what we will do: We will please ourselves according to our own varying standards of the moment and hope that In so doing we will also please a lot of others at the same time.
